Accommodation & BOOKINGS

Whilst you can be very comfortable here and enjoy many quiet and beautiful days, it would be good to be aware of a few things so that you can be prepared for your stay when you arrive.

All the rooms at Karuna are clean and cozy. Nevertheless, all rooms are basic so please dont expect a luxuary hotel like experience. There is minimal power with a kitchen and gas cooker in most rooms.

Therefore please do not come expecting to be pampered by staff, but instead nature will do the pampering! Generally guests look after themselves and there is minimal inteference whilst you stay here. The benefit of this is that you have private space that is undisturbed.

To Help you choose a room please read our guest tips below

"Take Shashi - Big or Small for the best Sunrise view. For comfort, take Saraswati. For absolute alone time, take Kailash" (sumitfloyd)

"Ask for the best view. Not the best room." (agcluvstravel)

"Depending on what is available, have a stroll around and choose a place for you. The view is highly recommended." (Bouncy_Boycy)
 of 5 stars 23 Jul 2013

"Between Bhajan Kutir and Surya book yourself Bhajan Kutir which is more spacious, feels less cramped and the view is even better. You also have a little porch where stringing yourself a hammock might be a great idea" (AdhiraajRay)

"cottage called 'saraswati' was the best, with an awesome view." (VictorLazaro)

 of 5 stars 29 Apr 2013

"If you don't want the premium hut then ask to see a few - they are very different. The premium has a nice outdoor seating with fireplace and great view - big kitchen and indoor fire-oven as well. On top it is easy to get to the community kitchen without falling down the mountain or getting lost in the jyngle at night" (DanishBoy77)

"Karuna Farms is a very simple place and is driving towards self-sufficiency. Be prepared to experience very limited electricity. Charging mobile phones might be a problem (there is no network there, and moreover, do think of throwing away your phone once you are there). Carry sports shoes or hiking boots as the trails around the farm can get a little messy during the monsoons I strongly suggest the bigger rooms, its wholly, completely, totally worth it" (Nixiom)

"We are in a remote location so you may need to walk the last part of the way, or use a four wheeler." (aleeor)

"The cheapest room has it's toilet detached." (theniece)

In a nut shell:

1. If you like luxury, room service, phones, TV, INTERNET etc. This place is not for you.

2. The farms are nested on a hill slope overlooking a valley, the cool breeze always keeps you comfortable.

3. Great people/staff, most of them from Nepal. The adorable Pradesh is their leader, and has been living here for 15 don't expect anything to come by in a haste, standard waiting time for anything is 60 minutes.

4. Food is purely vegetarian, made from the Farm's vegetables and is available in the kitchen. Alcohol and Non Veg food is discouraged

5. Most rooms equipped with cooking gas and utensils (pots/pans/cutlery/plates).

6. If going for a short trip - take instant food(s) - Breads, Noodles, Soups, Coffee, Butter, Tea etc.

7. If you are going to stay, then it's important to stock up on Kitchen needs - Oil, Spices, flour etc.

8. Electricity is by a Solar Panel feeding into an inverter, so put all your electronics charging in the day as in the night will use the battery for lights. No fans in the room. Not required also.

9. Must go the top/summit of the adjoining hill, lovely view, if possible catch the sun rise at 6.30 AM from the top, but beware of Wild Bison in the area (we had a close encounter!)

10. You can also hike down the village near by

Tips: Must have - good shoes, rain sleet (for monsoons), Torch (and backup torch), candles, snacks, your own toiletries.

All in all, this place is going to be one of my favorite places in South India as and I am going to repeat my visit to cover all seasons at least once.
